About Shari Winstead

Shari is a 25-year resident of Shoreline. Her family lives in the Echo Lake neighborhood.  Shari's husband Stan Hansen, is a lifelong Shoreline resident. Shari‘s son, Dan Hawkins, graduated from Shorewood in 2005, and is married to his high school sweetheart, Shawna (Stewart) Hawkins, and they are now parents to Cameron Hawkins, a very busy 2+ year old, (who is the true spark of the family!)  Dan is a Lieutenant for the City of Renton Fire Department, and Shawna works part-time at Swedish Medical Center.  Jessika, Stan’s daughter,  is also a Shorewood grad and currently a student at Shoreline Community College.  Jessika currently resides with Shari and Stan.

Career path leading to City Council

Shari was elected to the Shoreline City Council in 2009. She has a long history of volunteering on behalf of issues and organizations that are critical to Shoreline, and a professional resume that includes working as lead staff to King County Councilmember (now Attorney General) Bob Ferguson, and for a top Seattle law firm, Davis Wright Tremaine, for over 28 years.

Community Advocate

Since the beginning of her term on Council, Shari has been a strong advocate for community – the neighborhoods and people of Shoreline. She championed the “Healthy City Initiative” that kicked off in May of 2011. Since that time the City has held numerous events focusing on giving our citizens opportunities for exercise, healthy eating and community connection. Shari attended the International Making Cities Liveable Conference in 2010 to connect with other leaders and learn affordable ways for to make Shoreline the best place to live! She is passionate about her work on the City Council, and making sure that the vision of our citizens is made real. 

Serving our Community

Prior to being elected to the City Council, Shari served as Co-Chair and Treasurer for the 2006 Parks, Trails, and Open Space Bond Campaign, was a board member of the Echo Lake Neighborhood Association and Richmond Little League, helped found ShoreDog, and was a boardmember of the Shoreline Breakfast Rotary Club. She was a 10 year member of the Shoreline Division of the Partnership for Youth Justice and served on several advisory committees for the City.

Enjoying Life

Shari loves to spend time outdoors with her family and their dog, Stewart. She and Stan can often be found pedaling their bicycles to Shoreline events, or going for a run on the Interurban Trail, having recently completed their first half-marathon. She also enjoys practicing yoga and socializing with her friends and neighbors, especially at Shoreline events.
