Shari Winstead Announces 2017 Re-Election Campaign
Deputy Mayor Shari Winstead has announced that she will be running for re-election to the Shoreline City Council. She was first elected January 2010, and re-elected in 2014. She served as Mayor in 2014 and 2015, and is now serving as Deputy Mayor while continuing to balance a full time job as a project manager and her family.
Besides serving on the City Council for over 7 years, Shari has been appointed to many regional committees to represent Shoreline’s interests. She currently serves on the Regional Law, Safety & Justice Committee, the Regional Water Quality Committee and the National League of Cities Human Development Committee. She is also a former member of the Seattle-King County Board of Health.
Our region is rapidly changing - we experience the effects of that growth every day, whether it’s sitting in traffic or taking note of all the cranes and new building projects. While we are fortunate to live in a thriving region with many job opportunities, there can also be negative impacts to the growth. I will work to balance how we mitigate the negative affects while finding a way to seize the positive.
In preparing for light rail to come to Shoreline, I was proud of the work our Council did to focus new growth and increased density in the light rail station areas. This will, in effect, preserve over 95% of our single family residential communities. New residents that choose to live in the station areas will be in close proximity to transit and that will keep more vehicles off the road - helping our current traffic nighmare, and consistent with Shoreline’s Sustainability Strategy. We will also have opportunities to claim more space for parks, and to require developers to pay for much-needed upgrades to our City’s infrastructure, among other things.
Things are moving fast in Shoreline and it is important to have experienced, strong, bold leaders that will protect our city and keep Shoreline the great place we all love - for living, working, learning, and recreation!
I am always ready to listen to your ideas, opinions and comments. Feel free to contact me or reach me by phone at 206-356-7630. Emails regarding specific items on the Council's agenda should be sent to email@example.com.
Yours in our love of Shoreline,
